Quality Testing & Compliance

How do I know which certifications actually cover the product I am buying?
By reading the scope rather than the badge. Compliance applies to a specific model, battery and charger configuration, brand and market, so ask for a gap list against your exact configuration instead of accepting a certificate that may name a different unit.
A certificate is a statement about a specific thing: this model, with this battery and this charger, assessed against this standard, for this market, under this brand. Change any one of those and the statement may no longer be true.
That is why “we have CE” is not an answer. The useful question is: does the documentation cover the exact unit I am going to sell, into the market I am going to sell it in?
If any of those is missing, the document cannot be relied on, whatever it says at the top.
Putting your brand on a product changes who is responsible for it in most markets, and can change the label content itself. It does not automatically invalidate existing test work, but it does mean somebody has to check that the marking and the declaration still describe reality.
The question to settle early is not technical. It is: who is the responsible economic operator in this market, and whose name and address appear on the label? Resolve it before the artwork is finalised.
Most of the cost in a new market is not the headline test. It is the smaller requirements around it: battery transport documentation for a product with a lithium cell, packaging and recycling obligations, language versions of the manual, and any retailer protocol layered on top of the legal minimum.
Ask for those as a list with costs, not as a single reassuring sentence.
A supplier who says “let me confirm which report applies to your exact model” is worth more than one who sends a folder of certificates. The first behaviour prevents a customs or marketplace problem later; the second just moves it.
Send the exact configuration and market, and ask for a written gap list: what is already covered, what still needs testing, who is responsible for each item, and what it costs.

Where a statement could not be verified it is presented as a consideration rather than a fact.
